A Budget-Friendly Adventure: Exploring Panama

In February, I embarked on a solo vacation to Panama and Colombia for my birthday, an incredible experience.

Flying with COPA Airlines, I snagged a fantastic round-trip deal for under $200. The best part? Panama's currency is in US dollars, making things even more accessible.

But traveling solo can sometimes be lonely, so I decided to stay at the Selina hostel in the lively tourist area of Casco Viejo. Surprisingly, Selina offered a touch of luxury, boasting a fantastic rooftop pool, two restaurants, and even a nightclub that kept the party going until 4 AM. Although the hostel was a bit pricey compared to other options, it was worth it as I wanted to meet new people—and I did!

I adore rooftop bars and restaurants and visited a few during my stay. Tantalo Rooftop, Lazotea Rooftop, and the W Panama are must-visit spots if you want breathtaking views. If you're after a fantastic sunset experience, make a reservation in advance at the Marriott. If that's not possible, aim to arrive a couple of hours early to secure a great table with a clear view because, trust me, it gets packed.

While in the area, don't forget to explore the seafood markets and take strolls—Panama City is a very walkable city, especially if you're staying in Casco Viejo. If you love karaoke, check out El Green Room! It gets lit!

Around day four, I switched things up and booked an Airbnb outside the Casco Viejo area. Not only did it offer a dramatic drop in prices for accommodations and restaurants, but it also allowed me to discover a different side of Panama.

One of the highlights of my trip was doing an island tour. Although my original plan was to visit multiple islands and stay overnight, a miscommunication led me to explore only one. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Being on a remote island with no Wi-Fi or electricity was incredibly calming. It allowed me to live in the moment and enjoy a rare peace truly. If you're interested in an island tour, explore different packages. There are options for every budget. And if you're a fan of the show "Money Heist," there's even an island where they filmed that you can visit, though it's a bit pricier.

To sum it up, Panama is a fantastic destination that won't break the bank. It's also conveniently located if you want to explore neighboring countries like Colombia or Costa Rica. For more photos from my trip, check out my Instagram profile at Instagram.com/sparksnstyle.
